- Round Table on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Country Teams organize round table meeting attended by MDG stakeholders that include government officials, academicians and professionals. The round table has several aims including to further enhance awareness on MDG. The purpose is not merely to restrict assessment of achievement of MDGs in numerical or quantitative terms, but also to assess them qualitatively. For example, the percentage of educational coverage is important, but equally important is the quality of education provided. Likewise in Health. Focusing on HIV/AIDS is important but other diseases, such as obesity and blood pressure, need to be looked as well as they cause a big drain on the state exchequer.
- Workshop on HIV/AIDS.

The aim of the workshop is to promote awareness to collectively combat and reverse HIV/AIDS. The workshop also seeks ways to reduce the social stigma attached to the disease and also to look at prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS from the Human Rights perspective. The workshop is attended by government officials, academics, medical professionals and social activists. The workshops support government efforts to combat HIV/AIDS.
- Workshop on HIV/AIDS for teenagers.
This workshop on HIV/AIDS targets teenagers in order to promote awareness and take protective measures regarding the disease among this age group.
- Seminar and exhibition on nutrition and poverty reduction.
Seminar and exhibition are held to promote a healthy dietary lifestyle.
- Seminar on violence against women and children.
Being the weaker sections of society, women and children are often victims of abuse and violence. The effort here is to promote the human rights of women and children and also to see how UN Country Teams can support the government in this field.
- Campaign against Tobacco consumption
The campaign examines how to raise the official and public awareness on tobacco-related diseases and also looks into how UN Country Teams can support the government to undertake measures to reduce consumption of tobacco.
- Seminar on monitoring and evaluating achievement of MDG targets
To monitor and evaluate the progress made on MDG targets requires a database. Workshop is organized to train specialized government officials on how to develop MDG-related database and information system. The UN has developed a user-friendly software called “DevInfo”, which has a grid of all the components that comprise MDGs to help government officials update data. DevInfo provides a detailed statistical grid for the country on all MDG-related issues such as health, poverty etc.
- Joint Support to the development of the MDG Report.

Country teams cooperate with the Government of Saudi Arabia to help prepare its own MDG report for 2005. The report sets a policy framework for officials to plan and achieve MDGs.
- Preparation of study on water management.
This involves preparing a study to draw a policy framework on water management and prospects. The UNCT is working on a study to identify what is required to set up a policy on water management within the framework of national needs and priorities.
- Round Table discussions on food and drug safety.
The Round Table discussions examine issues related to food and drug safety in Saudi Arabia. Participants include academicians, professionals and government officials.
Workshop on Women and MDGs
Women can play a significant role in development-related issues, ranging from health to poverty. This workshop highlights the role of women as actors and beneficiaries of MDGs. |
