UN Representatives and UNDP Goodwill Ambassadors; Captain Sami Al-Jaber & Mrs. Muna AbuSulayman, Visit Prince Sultan Humanitarian City

A number of representatives from the United Nations agencies in Saudi Arabia, and the two National UNDP Goodwill Ambassadors; Mrs. Muna Abu Sulayman (an infamous TV Anchor) and Captain Sami Al-Jaber (Captain of the Saudi National Team); visited Prince Sultan City for Humanitarian Services to engage the young people with special needs in the UN week activities which focused on the Youth's Role in Human Development.

The visit started off with a welcoming speech delivered by the Executive President of Prince Sultan City Dr. AbdulAziz Al-Shamekh, and a statement by the UN Resident Coordinator & UNDP Resident Representative Mr. El-Mostafa Benlamlih. Following that, the Business Development Manager in the city Mr. Abdulla bin Zaraa delivered an informative presentation to introduce the UN audience to the City’s history, vision, mission, activities, achievements, and future plans.

Afterwards, the UN team was accompanied by members of the “City” on a tour to visit the different departments and look at the various specializations and services offered. Throughout the tour, the young children with special needs took photos and played with UNDP’s goodwill ambassadors. UN gift items were handed to many of those children.

The visit also included a football match lead by Captain Sami Al-Jaber and a group of players from the Saudi National Team, together with the city male inhabitants and the Saudi Football National Team for the Disabled.

On the other hand, Mrs. Muna AbuSulayman delivered a presentation to the female city inhabitants on Human Development and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) highlighting Saudi Arabia’s performance with regards to these goals. The session was very interactive, and key issues and queries were raised by the ladies.
