“Gender mainstreaming Initiative – Gender Mobile Unit Display GMU ”

“28 May, 2007”, Riyadh,

Gender mainstreaming is one of the UNDP’s primary approaches towards gender equality. UNDP Riyadh Country office is committed to making gender equality a reality, not only because it is a moral imperative, but because it is a way to promote development and by the same token prosperity and well-being for all.

Consistent with the need to enhance the capacity of UNDP staff in mainstreaming gender in their respective programmes; a gender mobile unit display was conducted on May 28th 2007 .  This  display was a product of a collective presentation.  The exercise involved nine staff members (both programme and operations)  All documents were distributed to staff members and each one prepared 6 -7 slides summarizing the contents of the documents . The presentation started with briefing on GM, summary on the gender audit country report, GM Strategy and checklists, Gender Sensitive Budgeting & Indicators, Gender Analysis, Gender Measurement, Resource Guide for Gender Theme Group, GM Knowledge and Learning, Gender and Thematic Practice Areas, GM and MDGs /HDR, Gender survey. Over the course of the presentation 3 gender mainstreaming exercises were conducted to seek agreement on the gender context, issues, and rationale of the approach.  These exercises allowed for consensus building and mutual understanding of the issues and how to collectively address them. All material used for the preparation of the display was distributed during the Gender Focal Point Retreat and will be saved and shared within UNDP – SA filling system.
