In 1941, a devastated world caught in the throes of World War II established the League of Nations with the laudable aim of avoiding war, conflicts and other such debilitating problems. But the League failed in its objective of unifying the world. Conflicts continued, but then, so did the efforts to develop a more powerful international body that would strive to keep the world safe and peaceful.

During his three day visit to the Kingdom, the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan commended Saudi Arabia’s role in the fight against terrorism and said the world body would discuss Riyadh’s proposal to establish a counter terrorism centre as part of a global strategy. Annan who was visiting the Kingdom for the first time discussed with the Custodian of The Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah a range of major regional and international issues, including Iraq, Palestine and Syria.

Development Situation in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia is a vast desert country, covering an area of 2.15 million sq km with a population of about 23 million. The country has witnessed massive improvement in socio-economic development in the last 30 years, with significant progress in health, education, housing and environment.
